Not just an online recipes website.  This is an online cookbook.

I have to admit, this has been the most difficult site to complete in my ten year history of building websites. Amethyst wanted something different. With over 6000 recipes currently online, there was no choice but to build her website with a content management system. Basic HTML pages would have just taken up too much space. But it became apparent after designing several CMS templates, that the Visions Content Management System was not going to make her happy. Amethyst wanted something that looked different, that behaved different - she wanted the unique.

My Web Visions, Inc. does not stop working till the customer is happy - and neither do I. The solution that I came up with for Amethyst was a new CMS system that visually appears to be a book. Visitors can search for a particular recipe by name or by ingredient or they can just flip through the pages and browse the many recipes that Amethyst has online. The format is obviously appealing to her guests. This is evident by the comments found in her guestbook:

That is just a small sampling of the comments Amethyst has received in her guestbook.

The last time Amethyst and I spoke about her goals, she was planning to add pictures to some of her recipes and add more recipes. Her goal is to have over 10,000 recipes online for her guests to use. Pretty big goal, Amethyst!

This will be easily accomplished with the editing system built into the application for her. She can login, browse the book like a visitor and simply click on ‘edit’ when she want to change a page, or ‘add’ when she wants a new page. I think we will continue to see her site grow in the future.

One last thing. An excerpt from Amethyst’s letter to me when the system was completed:

“…It wasn’t long before she asked me to check on something. I went to the URL she sent me and almost fell over with shock. This was the most wonderful program I had come across for doing a website. She asked me to take a test run and tell her things I would like done better. So I took the test run, sent Sheri all the nit-picky things I came across and the next few times I went to work with the program, all the little things changed and worked the way I had envisioned and even some things had been added to make things even easier. .

This program has reduced the amount of server space by 75% which gives me the freedom to do some of things I’ve wanted to do for years. This is the easiest way to put a website together and manage it.
